So much
resplendence and magnificence originate from JinLing.
Gold foil , the art of which has existed for a long time.

It is fabled that gold foil has been born for Buddhism, circulated for
the later, too.About the fifth to sixth century B.C.. A prince of
ancient Hindustan named Siddartha Gantama, i.e. Sakyamuni, created
Buddhism for fighting against Brahman. Buddhism, Christianity and Islam
are called the three largest religions in the world. Buddhism was
spread into China in the 10th year of YongPing during reign of Emperor
Mingdi of the Eastern Han Dynasty(A.D.67), and gradually popularized
during the period from the Three Kingdoms, the Jin Dynasty to the
Northern and Southern Dynasties. Thought of Buddhism produced an
effect on ancient philosophy. Literature and art and folk customs is
china to a certain extent.
Buddism entered a period of great prosperity during the period of full
bloom of the Tang Dynasty.DuMu, a famous poet of the Tang Dynasty,
vividly described such a view in his poem Spring In Regions South of
The Yangtze River.
"Gaze far into the distance , scattered red flowers are set off by a
stretch of green land. A few yellow warblers are joyfully singing in
groves. A shop-flag of a wine shop in the village is billowing in the
wind. Hidden in misty rain are many towers o four hundred and eighty
temples in southern regions."
The Yangtze River Basin, from ancient times to the present, is a very
developed region in politics, economy and culture. Nanjing, situated
in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and called Jinling, the
Stone City and Jiangning in history, was ancient capital of six
dynasties. Gold foil used for decorating Buddhist emerged in Nanjing
region with diffusion of Buddhism culture, and Jinling Gold Foil was
known to every household by passing on from generation to generation
as time passed.

Around Huayuan Townshiop of Jiangning, almost every family has been
engaged in gold foil processing from ancient times till now,
consequently, the place has been praised as the hometown of gold foil
in China all along.
During the periond of Ming and Qing Dynasties, Jiangning contributed a
lot of gold foil (and gokd thread) for decorating the palace and
making imperial robes for the imperial court.
The inscription on the excavated stele of empress Dowager Cixi"
mausoleum of the Qin Dynasty shows gold foil used in the palace was
produced in Jiangning.
Many historical data demonstrate that the home place of gold foil in
China is in Jiangning coutry, Jiangsu pronvince. For example, it is
recorded in the Chronicale of the Song Dynasty' notes ¢òon Emperor
Renzong that decoration of Buddhas with gold foil shall be forbidden
since August Kangding the first year (A.D. 1040).
